How to make it:
-
Combine equal parts water and granulated sugar (about 1 cup of each, or more if making a larger batch) and a small pinch of saffron in a small saucepan.
-
Bring to a boil over medium heat.
-
Continue boiling, whisking constantly, until the sugar has dissolved, about 3 minutes.
-
Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature, at least 30 minutes. (The longer it sits, the more intense the flavor will be).
-
Strain into a clean jar with a lid. Cover and store, refrigerated, for up to 1 month.
How to use it:
In cocktails or mocktails
One of our favorite uses for our golden saffron syrup is as a flavor-enhancer in your favorite cocktails or mocktails. Whip up our version of a Moscow Mule (the Mumbai Mule), subbing saffron syrup for simple syrup, or this delicious Saffron Whisky Smash.
Or, craft a simple, show-stopping homemade lemonade by combining saffron simple syrup and fresh lemon juice. The perfect way to keep cool this summer.
On grilled or fresh fruit
Fresh, grilled, in pies, crumbles or cobblers - saffron simple and fruit is a winning combination. Add a drizzle to your next fruit salad, serve some on these delectable Garam Masala Grilled Peaches, or use it as the perfect finish to your homemade fruit pies.
On your favorite desserts
Whether it's a simple pound cake, cupcakes or vanilla ice cream, or something more elevated like these delicious homemade jalebis (saffron funnel cakes), topping your desserts with saffron simple syrup is a surefire way to impress and delight your dinner guests.
Pro tip: adding a drizzle of saffron simple syrup to store-bought desserts makes them feel, look and taste as good as the homemade stuff.
