The holidays have come and gone and chances are your body may be feeling less than stellar. The good news is you don’t need to sign up for a crazy diet or spend countless hours at the gym to feel better. The human body is smart and knows how to heal itself, but if you need some ideas on how to transition back into your healthy lifestyle, we have some health hacks that are perfect post holidays.

Hydrate

Some of us struggle to drink the recommended 8 glasses of water a day, but hydration is key to a healthily functioning body. If your New Year’s resolution or post-holiday goal is to drink your allotted eight glasses and you are feeling the task daunting, why not mix it up with some Golden Saffron Tea? Load Up on Vegetables

Fresh fruit and vegetables may have been hard to come by during the holiday celebrations, so be sure to stock up on in-season produce. If you can’t seem to fight that sweet tooth, try incorporating sweeter vegetables like sweet potatoes, cooked carrots or sauteed onions to help satisfy your sugar cravings.

Enhance Your Mood

Many people experience a case of the blahs and feel melancholy after the holidays, so to enhance your mood, why not try some saffron? Saffron has been used in traditional medicines for millennia from Persian to Indian cultures, and many believe it has calmative, anti-inflammatory, and anti-depressant effects. Some more recent studies have even pointed to saffron as a natural mood enhancer (psychologytoday.com) – and we at Rumi must admit that we are always very happy after eating (or drinking) anything with saffron!

Make Time to Move

We all know how important exercise and movement is for both your physical and mental health, and making a resolution to move more is probably many of your New Year’s resolutions. Whether it is yoga, lifting weights at home, joining a gym, or going for more hikes, if you have fun while you move you will have more motivation to stick with your it throughout the year. You will probably need to fuel this movement too, and maybe even ‘treat yo self’ after a particularly hard workout.

Eat Intentionally

During the holiday season it’s easy to eat mindlessly. Between the cocktail party appetizers, indulgent family meals and dessert tables a mile long, it’s easy to graze, but after the holidays, focus on getting back to home cooked meals. Avoid foods that are known to cause inflammation like sugar, gluten and dairy and get back to making meals with real, whole foods like organic protein sources, fresh vegetables and delicious spices like saffron.
